The Supreme Court Rightly Reins In NEPA Dysfunction

May 30, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, American Exploration & Production Council CEO Anne Bradbury issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in Seven County Infrastructure Coalition v. Eagle County to restore proper procedure under NEPA environmental reviews:

For decades, special interests and others have inappropriately pushed NEPA’s scope far beyond its intended procedural purpose, paralyzing development of critical energy infrastructure projects with expansive reviews, endless delays and legal challenges.

The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision rightly reins in what has become a dysfunctional NEPA process and restores the law’s fundamental purpose as a procedural check. Looking ahead, AXPC urges Congress to affirm this important ruling within comprehensive permitting reform that enables the needed buildout of modern energy infrastructure.
