Secretary Doug Burgum Joins AXPC’s Longer Laterals Podcast to Discuss Why President Trump’s Energy Dominance Strategy is Working

June 9, 2026

Washington, D.C. – The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) today released Episode 9 of Longer Laterals, where Secretary Doug Burgum discusses why the policies behind President Trump’s energy dominance strategy are working. In this episode, AXPC CEO Anne Bradbury and Secretary Burgum explore why restoring confidence in federal lands management matters for your wallet and how the National Energy Dominance Council is slashing red tape to build big in America again.

The conversation comes on the heels of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) blockbuster $4 billion oil and natural gas lease sale in New Mexico and Texas. Under Secretary Burgum, drilling permit approvals have more than doubled to nearly 5,800 last year, while formal expressions of interest in new federal acreage have surged from fewer than 100,000 acres to more than 2.4 million acres in just two years.

“Oil and natural gas producers are fundamentally reorienting capital back to federal lands in historic fashion, marking a new chapter to develop America’s abundant natural resources,” said Bradbury. “As other nations face the consequences of foreign dependance, these investments will be critical to bolstering America’s energy security and lowering costs for hardworking families.”

“President Trump’s energy dominance strategy is working and one of the leading indicators is record lease sales,” said Secretary Burgum. “President Trump is setting America up for an age of abundance and the energy industry is going to be the one that leads the way because we can’t build that prosperous future without more energy.”

On the episode, Secretary Burgum also discusses the urgency of addressing America’s energy infrastructure deficit, why California’s energy policy should be considered a national security threat, and much more.
