Washington, D.C. – The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) released Episode 7 of Longer Laterals, where Veriten Partner and “Super-Spiked” creator Arjun Murti joins Anne to unpack the rapidly evolving global energy crisis. Their conversation examines why American consumers benefit from the resilience of U.S. energy systems, the accelerating shift toward energy realism, and the critical importance of federal policies to support infrastructure development nationwide.
Against the backdrop of significant supply disruptions tied to instability in the Middle East, Murti underscores the magnitude of the moment and the contrast between U.S. energy security and growing strain abroad.
“The Shale Revolution in both oil and natural gas is really what is setting the U.S. apart in this moment, relative to especially that 1970s example where we were very dependent on imported energy in particular from the Middle East,” Murti said. While the U.S. is more insulated from the current supply disruption, Murti emphasizes that countries in Asia are “already seeing signs of physical shortages, forced work from home” to conserve energy.

The episode also explores the growing divergence between U.S. and global natural gas markets, with Murti pointing to structural advantages underpinning why “our natural gas prices are a fraction of the rest of the world” while at the same time “we’ve gone from almost zero LNG exports to being number one” in global exports.
