AXPC Statement on Updated CEQ Guidance for NEPA Implementation

Washington, DC – Today, Anne Bradbury, CEO of the American Exploration & Production Council, released the following statement after President Trump’s Executive Order for CEQ to provide updated guidance to agencies on implementing NEPA:

In order for America to help meet rising domestic and global energy demand, we need a modernized permitting system. Reviews for energy and infrastructure projects can take four years on average and then delayed even longer because of frivolous third-party challenges and litigation delays. The Council on Environmental Quality’s updated guidance for how agencies can continue to move projects forward while these important NEPA directives are being considered and will help balance the need for being able to supply affordable, reliable energy production while still meeting environmental protection requirements.

AXPC applauds the Trump administration’s careful attention to avoiding procedural roadblocks while they tackle the challenge of realigning federal programs with court decisions and the bipartisan reforms in the Fiscal Responsibility Act. We will continue to work with Congress to pass comprehensive permitting reform that is modernized, predictable, and durable so that the United States can continue to be the world leader in energy production.”
