AXPC Praises EPA’s Technical Improvements to Burdensome Methane Regulation Requirements, Delivering Relief to American Energy Producers

April 8, 2026

Washington, D.C. – The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) today welcomed the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final rule completing technical reconsideration of two burdensome provisions under EPA’s methane regulations, the New Source Performance Standards (OOOOb) and emissions guidelines for existing sources (OOOOc), which will go in effect 60 days after formal publication.  This action responds to industry petitions for reconsideration by revising temporary flaring provisions for associated gas in emergency situations and modifying requirements for monitoring

and testing of control devices, introducing common-sense flexibility to Biden-era rules that were unworkable in real-world operations.

Anne Bradbury, AXPC CEO, said:

“AXPC commends Administrator Zeldin and the EPA for listening to the concerns of domestic producers and acting swiftly to correct technical requirements that would soon impose burdensome costs on American energy production. These revisions reflect exactly the kind of evidence-based rulemaking that supports American-made energy production at a time when the world needs more reliable, secure energy. We look forward to working with the EPA to continue developing effective, technically sound regulations that advance real environmental progress.”
