AXPC Files Comments on CEQ’s Interim Final NEPA Rule

March 27, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, the American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) filed comments to the Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) Interim Final Rule (IFR) removing CEQ’s previous regulations implementing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). AXPC commended the Administration’s focus on improving the consistency, efficiency, and legal durability of environmental reviews for infrastructure and energy projects.

“Our member companies know firsthand how outdated and duplicative NEPA processes delay critical energy projects,” said AXPC CEO Anne Bradbury. “This Interim Final Rule is a welcome opportunity to realign the NEPA process back to congressional intent and tailored for each agency—allowing for timely, transparent decision-making while upholding important environmental protections.”

AXPC’s comments emphasized the importance of restoring NEPA’s intended role as a procedural tool to inform agency decision-making—rather than a vehicle for unnecessary delay—and encouraged CEQ to guide federal agencies in adopting clear, tailored NEPA procedures consistent with their statutory missions.
