Washington, D.C. – Today, the American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) issued the following statement after the House Natural Resources Committee held an oversight hearing on the pitfalls and abuses of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The hearing reaffirmed how this woefully outdated statute continues to hold back the development of energy and infrastructure projects regardless of source.
Anne Bradbury, AXPC CEO, said:
“It’s time to fully bring NEPA into the 21st century.
For too long, the NEPA process has put our energy security at risk by enabling limitless permitting reviews and endless litigation that stymie energy production and stifle critical infrastructure investments.
AXPC applauds Chairman Bruce Westerman and the House Natural Resources Committee for shining a light on NEPA’s dysfunction and the need for common-sense, durable reforms to modernize our nation’s permitting system.”
