Washington, D.C. – The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) today applauded the House for passing the SPEED Act, calling it a pivotal step toward advancing durable reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and fixing America’s broken permitting system. With the passage of the bipartisan SPEED Act, which garnered 11 Democratic votes, the House has now sent the Senate a package of meaningful permitting reforms that include modernizing NEPA, providing certainty under the Clean Water Act through the PERMIT Act, and streamlining the permitting process for job-creating U.S. LNG exports through the Unlocking Domestic LNG Potential Act.
Anne Bradbury, AXPC CEO, said:
“Today’s vote marks a turning point to fix America’s broken permitting system and lower energy costs for every American. AXPC applauds the House for passing Chairman Bruce Westerman and Representative Jared Golden’s SPEED Act, a bipartisan breakthrough to responsibly streamline environmental reviews and end permitting lawfare that stifles all forms of energy development and drives up costs for American families. The time is now for the Senate to unleash affordable energy by passing comprehensive, durable permitting reform.”
