WASHINGTON – The American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC) – an association of independent, domestic oil and natural gas companies – released the following statement ahead
of the State of the Union Address:

“The state of American energy is stronger than ever because of the relentless perseverance of America’s oil and natural gas companies – fueling record economic growth, helping American families prosper and changing the national security landscape, all while reducing emissions more than any other country,” said AXPC CEO Anne Bradbury.

Background:

• In 2019, a number of key environmental and infrastructure regulations were modernized and streamlined, and international trade deals were finalized, which will allow the oil and natural
  gas industry to build on this success:
• President Trump signed the U.S. – Mexico – Canada Agreement (USMCA) and China Phase-One deal; both agreements secure additional market access for American energy companies.
• EPA and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers finalized the Navigable Waters Protection Rule, which provides clarity and regulatory certainty by establishing a definition of waters that are consider “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act.
• CEQ released a proposal updating National Environmental Protection Act to make the permitting process more efficient, consistent, and clarifying long-standing regulations.
• EPA released a proposal on methane that would allow for natural gas producers to continue to reduce emissions in a way consistent with what is required by the Clean Air Act.
• Interior finalized new rules implementing the Endangered Species Act to clarify the listing determination process.
