AXPC Statement on EPA’s Proposed Oil and Gas Methane Rule

WASHINGTON – American Exploration and Production Council (AXPC) CEO Anne Bradbury released the following statement, today, in regard to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed oil and gas methane rule:

Our industry is committed to working with EPA on the federal regulation of methane, in a manner that creates regulatory certainty and allows for domestic producers to provide America and the world with affordable and reliable energy.

While we are still digesting the full proposal, at the onset we appreciate EPA’s inclusion of many of the recommendations we made for needed changes and clarifications for upstream.  We still have concerns that should be addressed to make key provisions truly workable, but we will continue to work with EPA on meaningful solutions.

AXPC companies are focused on reducing methane emissions from their operations and support effective and reasonable regulation of methane that balances the essential value of US oil and natural gas production with the global challenge of addressing climate change.

AXPC member companies invest and deploy new technologies and often go above and beyond federal regulation, as part of their efforts to drive down methane emissions from upstream operations.  American producers’ commitment to environmental protection is clear, as the United States is a world leader in both energy production, and CO2 emissions reductions over the past two decades.
